Who are we?
The core archaeological team would be provided by experienced members of both the Battlefield Archaeology Group, and the Bristol University Great Arab Revolt Project of 2006-14. The GARP ten-year project is now in its post-excavation, publication, and public presentation phase. One major study has already been published by Yale University Press, Neil Faulkner’s Lawrence of Arabia’s War (www.yalebooks.co.uk), and a major exhibition based on the project ran for two years at the National Civil War Centre in Newark, Shifting Sands: Lawrence of Arabia and the Great Arab Revolt (www.nationalcivilwarcentre.com). Among several academic papers and numerous popular articles based on the project, Roger Ward has just published ‘The Arab War: Aqaba to Damascus’ in Desperta Ferro magazine.
PLEASE NOTE: It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Neil tragically died after a short illness in 2022. It is a struggle to describe the loss of Neil to our projects and to the wider world of archaeology. I am sure that everyone who has worked with Neil and counted him as a friend owes a debt to his knowledge, support, and generosity of spirit. Although this is often said, in this case it is really difficult to imaging continuing without him, as his loss is so deeply felt by his friends and colleagues. We hope at some stage to continue with our projects, in memory of our dear, lovely, inspirational friend, Neil Faulkner.
